Jinshanling carries 67 watchtowers along roughly ten kilometres of ridge — one of the densest concentrations of defensive towers anywhere on the Great Wall of China.
The stretch sits in Hualougou, Bakeshiying Town, Luanping County, Chengde City, Hebei Province, some 130 kilometres northeast of the capital, and it remains open 06:00–18:00 every day of the week.
The wall here was raised under the Ming dynasty and reworked in the 1560s and 1570s under General Qi Jiguang, who thickened the parapets and multiplied the towers against Mongol cavalry crossing the Yanshan range.
